Public Notice

It is for the information of cigarette, bidi, zarda, gul and all types of tobacco producing companies that following the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act 2005 (Amended 2013) and Smoking and Tobacco Product Usage (Control) Rules 2015, it has been made mandatory for all the tobacco packets, cartons or containers should contain graphical health warning (GHW) covering 50 percent space of the upper portion.

The former public notice on March 16, 2016 under the memo no – Memo no. Swapcom/NTCC/ Law and Rules Implementation/ 2015/472 about implementing graphical health warning on tobacco packets, cartons or containers covering lower 50 percent space, is annulled hereby.

Thereby, from September 19, 2017 the graphical health warning should be printed covering 50 percent upper space of the tobacco packets, cartons or containers. No tobacco products should be sold without printing graphical health warning covering 50 percent upper space of the packets, cartons or containers. If a person or company contravenes the provision of this section, he shall be punishable with a simple imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or a fine which may extend to two hundred thousand taka or both, and if the person contravenes the provisions more than once, every time the amount of fine or punishment shall be doubled.

The notice is served following the order of respective authority.
