Md. Asadul Islam Health Secretary instructed the Health Economics Unit of Ministry of Health to develop a tobacco tax recommendation in the view of protecting public health for the next financial year. He asked NTCC to organize a dialogue with NBR on the base of this year tobacco tax recommendation prepared by tobacco control experts. He made these remarks during chaired a seminar on Tobacco tax issue organized by the NTCC, BER, and WBB Trust at Fars Hotel and Resort in the Capital on Saturday, 27 April 2019. Professor Dr. Ruman Huq focal person of the Bureau of Economic Research presented keynote presentation and Md. Khairul Alam Shiekh coordinator of National Tobacco Control Cell delivered the welcome speech.

Shafiqul Islam head of programs Vital Strategies; Mohammad Ruhul Quddus former additional secretary, Health Services Division attended as the special guest. Representatives from 13 ministries and department participated in the meeting.
