BER and BNTTP handed over `Tobacco Tax Policy Outline’ to NBR Chairman

Bureau of Economic Research (BER), Dhaka University, and Bangladesh Network for Tobacco Tax Policy (BNTTP) jointly handed over the `National Tobacco Tax Policy Outline 2021-2030′ on 18 May 2021 to Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem, Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Dr Rumana Haque, Professor of Department of Economics, University of Dhaka and BNTTP’s convener and focal person of BER; Syed Mahbubul Alam Tahin, technical adviser of The Union; Hamidul Islam Hillol, Project Manager of Tobacco tax project, BER handed over this policy paper to NBR chairman.

At the same time, they demanded to impose specific tax on tobacco products to the chairman of the NBR from the coming financial year 2021-22. They also demanded to the NBR chairman the speedy implementation of the tax policy.
